The Dental Exam: What To Expect

Visiting the dentist for a dental exam can be an anxiety-inducing experience for many people. However, knowing what to expect beforehand can help alleviate some of those nerves. So, let’s take a closer look at the dental exam and see what it entails.

When you arrive at the dental office, you will be greeted by friendly staff who will guide you through the process. They may ask you to fill out some paperwork or update your medical history.

Once in the examination room, the dentist or hygienist will begin by thoroughly examining your mouth, teeth, and gums. This includes checking for any signs of decay or gum disease. X-rays may also be taken if necessary to get a more detailed view of your oral health.

During this time, they will also assess your bite and jaw alignment to ensure everything is functioning properly. This is important as issues with your bite can lead to problems such as headaches or TMJ disorder.

Next comes the cleaning part of the exam, where they remove plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth using special tools. They may also polish your teeth to give them that shiny finish we all love.

Throughout the entire process, feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have. The dentist is there not only to care for your oral health but also to educate and inform you about maintaining good oral hygiene practices at home.

In short, while going in for a dental exam might make some people nervous, understanding what happens during this visit can help ease those fears. Remember that regular dental exams are vital in maintaining optimal oral health and preventing potential problems down the line!

Dr. Baker and staff have exceeded any expectation one could have for the care and compassion given to my son with special needs. We were blessed to find them. My son has been their patient since approximately 2008. We appreciate them greatly!

Courteous and professional staff. Collectively they do a good job. The building and office is always having updates and you can tell Dr. Lisa and the staff care about the professional environment. I like the text updates to keep me on track. I like that Dr. Lisa does cancer screening and full exam at every visit. I take my whole family.
